Tattoo Mania
THE OFFICIAL VERSION
Nestled deep in the quiet neighborhood of Staten Island's South Shore lay
one of New York's best kept secrets.
Founded during the fabled "Illegal" years of tattooing; Tattoo Mania has as
colorful a history as its employees and owner. This is the real story of the
shop that everyone talks about. This is the official version of
TATTOO MANIA.
The Dark Ages
It's 1986 and tattooing had been illegal for 25 years in New York City. This
prohibition on body art had stopped few and driven the dedicated into seedy
back room tattooing. It was from this setting that 'Big' Jack O'Sullivan
found his place in the tattoo industry. Never being content with less than
reputable situation that he was faced with, Jack set out to learn all that he
could about this 'forbidden' art form and dedicated himself to making a
better place it in the city.
After working in many of the Jersey Shores boardwalk summer shops, Jack
decided to bring his labor of love back to his own home town. This move left
Jack wanting to create a shop where tattooing and piercing would be exalted
to a level of a pure art form and not a cookie cutter factory.
The Renaissance
In 1999 the city of New York saw the folly of its war against body art and
made it legal for tattooing to be done within the city limits. Jack wasted no
time to bring his dream to fruition. Assembling a group of dedicated artists
around him, Jack opened Tattoo Mania. The people of Staten island embraced
the ideals which the shop was founded upon.
The Modern Day
Tattoo Mania is now a fully working and celebrated World Class Studio, receiving acclaim from numerous periodicals and endless testimonials from

soul that the artists of Tattoo Mania will not help you bring to life.
